New Rover 120 / 8 (45)
TCC 66 / All out (30)
A young and will be a very talented New Rover team arrived on a clear cold sat afternoon- and probably putting the mockers on- but since lockdown i think we’ve had 2 nice days, so a credit to groundsmen who have managed to get every game on- albeit a bit wet!
We won the toss and batted 1st. King Charles and his jester Rob Gibson opened and kept it really tight for the 1st 12 overs but only for 1 wicket, however got to wax lyrical around Charles once again since his bowling comeback, who at one time was bowling outswing, then settled into inswinging, then back to outswing and bowls a far lot better bowls then he does bad, he’s a joy to watch, easy to set a field too and hope the club back him in the 1st as a viable bowler in the near future. Very impressive, doesn’t relieve enough with the amount of aggression shown!
Gibson and Drake came on, Gibson didn’t do much wrong with his donkey drops which were gripping and turning, but any decent batter can be patient enough to milk him and today wasnt his day(still happy with how he bowled)- but Drakey, dearly me- a man who has pulled off a fair few tricks in his time on gods green earth- probably hasn’t pulled off a con trick as well as today- half trackers, full tosses- bowling at 12 year olds head, and screaming the umpire into a god awful lbw decision- tbf he generally appeals when the batters middled it so expect no less – had figures 13-4-17-1. I’m in shock. he blagged his way into 1st slip as well.
Luke came on for his 4 overs and pick up a big wicket in a league stalwart, hoping he can build up more on his armoury to bowl more overs at a time, bowled well to left handers…..
Then came back the king, who finished with 13-4-29-4, bowled with aggression and accuracy for death bowling and was unlucky not to finish with more, arise young man. And finally Rob got back to finish with 10-4-19-1, and we kept them to 120-6
The batting I ain’t gunna bother talking about, Gibson will take his blame for swinging at a straight one in third over when meant to be doing a job. Flop n Pratt did well to see openers off, but once again we destroyed ourselves to line and length slow bowling. A special mention to Luke who looked composed and batted very well for his 17 and making claims that he could get a chance higher up, and the king was left stranded on 15no. I believe we were 28-9 before we got dragged to 66-10. But doesn’t help when our 2 most consistent batters this year been sat on the sidelines watching.
Let’s turn up next week, try put some pride on the year-you have massively improved since 2019 and things should go better.
