Thackley CC 2nd XI 249 / 8 (45)
Leeds Modernians CC 2nd XI 133 / All out (32.2)
Won the toss and elected to field
Firstly a massive thanks to everyone who’s worked on the ground this year, been up on a saturday mornings and here and there there mid-week you can see their is a massive concerted effort by a lo of peoplet in the background to keep all the ground looking in great shape, headed up by the main man Mr Cuff. Well done all.
On a nice warm day, we was shocked to learn that we lost the toss but got asked to bat. Dan Gibson and Craig Verity made their way to the crease both determined to go on from getting starts most week, although both a bit shocked that both pulled off all the same.
Craig started beautifully and was rolling back the years with classy cover drives for 6 and on the deck and oozed class for his 58 before once again getting himself out, leaving the opening partnership of 91, which was a massive improvement on the 2 weeks before.
Gibson got to his 50 a fair while after CV but began to play proper cricket shots instead of trying to oick everything over cow, determined to bat a while and with a solid defence and patience and only getting at angry at floppy (29) 5 times as he was hogging all the strike lucked out on 61. Liquid cricket. Floppy although a bit slow started showing a bit of intent at the end, still put on 64 together, to leave us 155-2, then gibson followed next over..
The middle order not used to this kind of luxury and having a free licence with 15 overs left, all played well, hitting the ball clean, nudging and nurdling when they cant hit it off the square (Mags), honourable mentions to all – Phil (17),Patty (18), Mags (17), Bas (17), Rob (11* – only dropped twice and a six by some shocking fielding must have known his luck was in) – we ended on a rarely seen 249!
Full off confidence going out in the 2nd innings, Henry and Charlie opened the bowling, Henry bowled class as usual for 8-2-20-2, wasn’t the kings day today – where his net bowling trick of bowling of 19 yards got found out with 7 no balls in 5 overs went for 40, but got a wicket.
Rob came on and bowled 10.2-3-21-4, he really has turned into an old man, setting them all up in different ways to knock them down, although thankfully he couldn’t wrap up the tail quick enough to ensure Mags finally got a bowl.
Luke (4-0-25-1) came on and bowled ok, and took a wicket thanks to an absolute stormer of a catch by Henry (getting the batter that looked like he could have run us close), fully deserved his fielding point.
Mags (5-2-13-2) finally got a ball, im sure the video is widely shared by Naylor by now, been nothing but a nuisance all day on the sideline. Although did get the wicket of the day with a bit looping inswinger slower bowl to a lad who was looking fairly solid.
A good win, a rare game where everyone contributed and a fitting way to finish our last home game, if only all Saturdays were made like this, we go with a bit of confidence into the last game with Foolifoot.
Team effort no man of the match, mule of the day Phile Drake for trying to blag a feilding point for letting one bounce of his knee for one, and not forgetting the attempt at run out which went 10 yards over Basa’s head.
