TCC – 62ao
North Leeds 63-6
We went to the home of North Leeds CC full of hope & optimism sparked by having dropped the average age of the team considerably by having a few youths in our team.
Dewy lost the toss and they inserted us – a decision he openly admitted he was happy with as he would have batted had we won the toss. Out strode our opening pair of TC & JA only to return back again quicker than Robbo could get to the score box on his lap round the pitch! Scurrying round the boundary at a pace never before seen by a rotund 42 year old he saw captain Dewhirst walk out confidently on the back of 2 50 no’s and then, rather like a husband not getting sex on his birthday, disappointingly return to the pavilion quicker than Stef can come up with an excuse as to why he can’t play this Saturday!
In walked Roberts to join Musky – the bowler on a hat-trick balk. Robbo (knowing they bowler very well from a previous life) decided to dance down the track and smash the ball for 4! The pair did a decent job of steadying they ship until Roberts decided to unexplainably give their gully some catching practice! Musky was batting well and putting the bad ball away and we were scoring at 4 and over – the only thing wrong was we were losing wickets at a similar rate!
Webbo, playing his first game of the season – but still seems to have played more than Mather – rather like a young boy playing garden cricket wanted to just deal in 4’s & 6’s had an almighty swipe at his first delivery!
Like everybody else he didn’t last long and we were soon 62-9! But there was still hope amongst the Thackley faithful as Sir Alfie confidently strode to the wicket.
But like our innings – that hope didn’t last long and we were rather embarrassingly all out for 62! Roberts pulled the “I’m too old and fat to bowl up a hill like that” so Wisey & Musky opened the bowling and quickly set about our task with gusto reducing the home side to 20-4. Wisey at one stage being on a hat-trick.
The score could have been much more had it not been for Dewy rolling back the years and sprinting twice to the boundary and giving his son something to be proud of by sliding to stop the ball just short of the boundary with his feet!!!
The pair bowled well but a score of 62 was never going to be enough unfortunately. Yet there was still time for what has a very good claim for catch of the season by TC – diving full length to his right and snaffling it in mid air – so at least his journey hadn’t been completely wasted!
A very disappointing day all round really. So on to our next game against Old Leo’s and some returning players will hopefully change our fortunes.
